Look Out For Each Other

Making sure we are all safe in the event of a tsunami is important.

A Tsunami Warning can cause stress and worry amongst the community. Knowing what official warnings are current, knowing what to do in the event of a tsunami and assisting others can reduce this stress level.

A tsunami can cause significant damage, especially if there is a Land Inundation Threat Warning. Encouraging people to move away from the coast, at least one kilometre inland from coastal areas, rivers and estuaries.

There will be great impact from a land Inundation Tsunami. Emergency services have Tsunami Emergency Plans and will enact these. In the event of a tsunami, follow all instructions and advice given by the emergency services and assist those who need help.

Things you can do now include:

  • Work with your neighbours to identify evacuation routes and plan what you will do in the event of a tsunami
  • Share your plan with friends and family to ensure everyone is on the same page
  • Ensure you keep people's contact details handy in case you need to contact them in a tsunami, they may be able to help you out with something if you're not home for some reason
  • Get your emergency kit together and store it in an accessible place in case you need to leave quickly
