NSW State Emergency Service (SES) personnel will share key storm and flood safety tips at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show through interactive displays and demonstrations to help the community prepare and respond to disasters.
Children of all ages will be invited to explore emergency vehicles, meet volunteer rescuers, and take part in interactive activities.
With the school holidays beginning this week, NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing AFSM encouraged families visiting the show from across the state to drop in to the stall and learn about ways to safely prepare for emergencies.
“NSW SES members will connect with attendees in fun and interactive ways to help the community better know their risk, get prepared, and make safe decisions during times of flood, storm and tsunami,” he said.
“While the kids explore our emergency response vehicles, parents can take part in practical demonstrations to learn how to prepare their home for storm season or put together a home emergency kit.”
Families can also test their knowledge about storm preparedness to take home prizes, including an NSW SES key ring, croc jibbitz or toy boat.
Commissioner Wassing said the NSW SES attended events such as country shows and fairs throughout the year to help volunteers connect with the communities they live, work and volunteer in and share key safety messages.
“Attending events like the Easter Show is important for our volunteers to meet people from all over NSW and help them prepare for natural disasters. It’s also an opportunity for the public to show their support for our dedicated volunteers behind our orange uniforms,” he said.
The Sydney Royal Easter Show runs from Friday 11 April to Tuesday 22 April at Sydney Olympic Park.
The NSW SES stall, which is sponsored by AAMI, can be found at the Home and Lifestyle Pavilion, next to the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome.
