State of the art NSW SES headquarters in Tamworth nears completion

Summary

A new state-of-the-art zone headquarters for the NSW SES is nearing completion in Tamworth, delivering improved disaster response and planning to communities in the North Western region.

A new state-of-the-art zone headquarters for the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is nearing completion in Tamworth, delivering improved disaster response and planning to communities in the North Western region.

The new zone headquarters on Bridge Street, West Tamworth will provide dedicated operational spaces for up to 60 emergency service personnel, which is sufficient to accommodate an expanded Incident Management Team, including a dedicated flood rescue coordination cell, and planning cells.

The new facility will ensure NSW SES staff, as well as partner emergency service agencies who assist during flood and storm events, have the resources required to respond to future disasters.

The North Western Zone was formed in February 2023 to provide additional support and resources to the local community, showing the NSW SES is committed to creating safer communities and saving lives.

Since that time, the team has significantly grown to include 26 staff members, with a majority of positions filled by local people.

In the past 12 months, Units across the zone have responded to more than 1016 incidents for everything from flooding and storm response to community first responder calls, general land rescues and road crash rescues.

Quotes attributed to Minister for Emergency Services, Jihad Dib:

The NSW Government is proud to support new facilities like this, which was funded as part of an $11.7 million package for the NSW SES to establish two new Zone Headquarters, including here in Tamworth.

This facility has been purpose built and designed with the operational experience gained during the flooding events of the past four years in mind.

This will ensure local SES staff, as well as partner emergency service agencies, have even more resources at their fingertips to deal with any situation they might come across.

Quotes attributed to NSW SES Acting Commissioner, Debbie Platz:

This new facility will ensure the NSW SES continues to provide the highest level of service to the local community through planning and coordination of emergency events during floods and storms.

Not only that, the new facility will create a better connection to local NSW SES volunteers across the region, allowing streamlined communication and coordination through incident response and flood rescue calls.

I look forward to seeing this facility complete and occupied by our dedicated North Western Zone staff.
