A second deployment of NSW emergency service personnel is on the way to assist with flood resupply, support of evacuation centres and flood debris clean up in North Queensland communities.

The NSW response, coordinated by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), includes 61 personnel from the NSW SES, NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW).

NSW SES State Duty Commander, Assistant Commissioner Colin Malone, said this second contingent is double the size of the initial deployment which departed the state on Thursday.

“We have SES and RFS volunteers assisting who are highly qualified and experienced working in the field, including chainsaw operators, height specialists, flood rescue operators, community liaison officers and welfare and peer support services,” Assistant Commissioner Malone said.

FRNSW has provided a member to assist in the incident management team.

“The second deployment is expected to last five days with our crews assisting with flood resupply, clearing debris, removing fallen trees and community engagement. All NSW personnel are working hand-in-hand with Queensland Emergency service partners,” Assistant Commissioner Malone said.

NSW Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib thanked emergency service members from across NSW who have put their hands up to provide essential support to the individuals and families impacted by flooding.

“Thank you to all the SES, RFS and FRNSW personnel for their commitment, dedication, and professionalism as they provide assistance to the communities experiencing these terrible floods in Queensland,” Minister Dib said.

“I want to wish them all the best with the deployment as they carry out this vital work.”

NSW SES volunteers from Griffith, Tocumwal, Mullumbimby, Grafton, Casino, Maclean, Cooma, Collector, Yass, Sutton, Woolgooga, Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Forbes, Camden Haven, Ulladulla, Shellharbour, Wingecarribee, Broken Hill, Swansea, Newcastle, Moree, Tamworth and Liverpool Plains have joined the interstate response.
