NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is reminding the public to be vigilant this weekend, with flash flooding possible across parts of NSW.

On Friday afternoon through to Saturday morning, moderate-heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Western NSW, the Central Inland and the North Coast.

On Saturday the rain is expected to spread east, covering a large part of the state.

Widespread totals of 25-50mm are expected, with isolated higher falls of 100mm possible over the weekend.

From Sunday, the severe weather will largely restrict to the South Coast, with rain, damaging winds and large surf expected, increasing risks of flash-flooding, falling trees and coastal erosion.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey said the main risk associated with the widespread rain was flash flooding.

“We may see water levels rise quicker than normal, particularly where the ground is already saturated as a result of Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” Assistant Commissioner Storey said.

“We may see roads cut by water which is unable to drain away. You should never drive through flood waters”.

The NSW SES has issued a Watch and Act flood warning for residents at Thora to prepare for isolation. Meanwhile minor flooding is possible this weekend in parts of the Northern Rivers including the Wilsons, Tweed, Brunswick, Richmond and Orara Rivers. There is also a flood warning for the Paroo River in North Western NSW.

Assistant Commissioner Storey said the NSW SES had prepositioned rescue assets including high clearance vehicles, flood rescue teams and helicopters at higher-risk locations.

“The public are advised to monitor the conditions and download the Hazards Near Me App to stay up to date with the latest information and warnings,” he said.

For help during floods, storms and tsunami call the NSW SES on 132 500.
