Gilgandra Unit

'I wanted to help build community resilience. Knowing I am making a difference is what it is all about.'

What do you do as a NSW SES Volunteer?

My role is that of volunteer Local Commander for the Gilgandra SES Unit.

Gilgandra is a primary rescue unit for the community and surrounding Local Government area.

Why did you join the NSW SES?

My professional/paid role, is NSW Ambulance Paramedic Educator.

Despite this I joined the local SES unit so as to assist the community in times of need and to gain a number of skills which I did not currently have.

Describe the personal benefits you get from being an NSW SES volunteer?

What do I get from being an SES volunteer – knowledge and skills. Along with the opportunity to practice my leadership skills, my planning skills and the satisfaction of being able to help in the community in times of need.

I wanted to help build community resilience. Knowing I am making a difference is what it is all about.
