SES is looking for more volunteers

The team at the NSW State Emergency Service Eden unit are looking for new volunteers for the area's rescue team.
Deputy Local Commander for the Sapphire Coast group of SES units Michael Cooksley said the all-volunteer team is looking to boost its ranks by opening the doors to locals keen for a challenge and to learn new, life-changing and life-saving, skills.
"When you join the NSW SES, you become part of a team who share your commitment to helping the Eden, Pambula and Merimbula communities in times of need," he said.
"There are a wide range of roles that you can choose to do regardless of your existing skills or experience. We will equip you with everything you need and provide you with nationally recognised training, so you are all set to lend a hand".
"You can commit to as much or as little time as suits your lifestyle with our flexible approach to volunteering."
The men and women who make up the orange army are there when the community needs them most, from traffic crashes, searching for missing persons, cliff rescues and helping out with floods and storms.
Some of the recent activities undertaken by Eden SES volunteers included a multi day search for a missing person in support of NSW Police, responding to the November Merimbula hail storms that resulted in 142 requests for assistance, sending a team to Mallacoota to assist Victorian SES in the search for a missing man, sending two members to Dubbo to assist at the Australian Road Rescue Organisations Competition, attendance at significant local motor vehicle accidents and rescues across the Eden area, and extensive support to NSW RFS in the management of fires and supporting operations for Tathra and Yankee's Gap fires.
Even if field work is not your cup of tea, there are other "operational" roles vital to the running of the SES.
"We are always on the look out for members with skills in financial management, administration, logistics and planning, truck driving and community relations," Commander Cooksley said.
The SES would love to hear from anyone with these skills as well.
The local SES crew has training every Thursday from 5.30pm at 2 Wirriga Street Eden. The invitation is open for anyone from Eden, Pambula or Merimbuls to head along to one of the training sessions and see what they get up to.
